Craft apps
The ArtCraft team releases seven open-source Craft apps
In early October 2026 the ArtCraft team published seven new desktop apps on GitHub, each an open-source take on a familiar Adobe product:
- PhotoCraft: image editing (Photoshop)
- VectorCraft: vector illustration (Illustrator)
- FilmCraft: video editing (Premiere Pro)
- LightCraft: photo library and raw development (Lightroom)
- PdfCraft: PDFs (Acrobat)
- EffectCraft: motion graphics (After Effects)
- DesignCraft: page layout (InDesign)
All of them are written in Rust, dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, need no account, and ship builds for Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD and the web.
They are also very new. The project calls PhotoCraft an early alpha that is “not yet a Photoshop replacement for daily professional work”, and press coverage from PetaPixel, Phoronix and others noted both the speed of development and open questions about the “clean-room” approach.
PhotoCraft drew the most attention by far: more than 43,000 GitHub stars within days.
